Trying to control the ocean.
--
Rationality is a religion.
We might not consider it that way, but it is.
It’s the preferred belief system of the mind.
Solidly built around the mind.
In honor of the mind.
And constantly relying on the mind.
A perfect, closed-loop.
A fear-based phenomenon.
Thinking, thinking, thinking.
A dog with a million tails to follow.
Rationality is like a rich but vague promise.
Its perceived power is ‘control by knowledge’.
If only we know enough, we’ll figure it out.
Life will finally be safe.
We’ll be safe.
But of course, we can never know enough.
So anxiety is born.
Which we’ll then try to run away from with more knowledge.
Let me tell you something:
The trick is not to learn more, to collect more, to keep feeding our minds with more stuff.
The trick is to fall back into the confusion.
To spread our arms and shout ‘Come and get me you motherfucker!’
And then you’ll find out that it’s not real.
Nothing bad will happen.
The anxiety and the confusion and the lack of confidence were just ways to keep you imprisoned, fooled, and lost in the dark.
Rationality is like a laptop bobbing on the ocean, trying to control it.
It’s not going to happen.
How about just floating?
